Beloved Blog's Names of the Week: Roselind and Ferdinand

Hi everybody! It's time for names of the week again and I personally love both of the names I'm sharing with you today. You might have noticed that they have a similar sound but what I like about them is that they are both vintage classics and both outside of the top 1000, making them uncommon but still recognizable.

Let's get started!

Roselind
Origin: Latin
Meaning: beautiful rose

Oh, Roselind... This name makes me sigh a little bit, it's so pretty! In fact, beautiful is part of it's meaning and can you think of a more lovely meaning than 'beautiful rose'? It shocks me that this name is not in the top 1000! Rose is at #194, Rosalie is at #310, and Rosa is at #608.A more condensed form of Roselind, Rosalyn, just made it into the top 1000 in 2014 and is at #985. Neither Roselind or Rosalind are in the top 1000. To me Roselind and Rosalind look so much more appealing than Rosalyn but the -lyn ending is very popular for girls these days. I'd use Roselind (and I prefer this spelling) in a heartbeat if it wasn't for....my last name. Roselind sounds okay with it but I dislike the most obvious nickname Rosie (#844) with it. Lindi would make a super cute nickname, though!

Possible middle names for Roselind: Roselind Isabelle, Roselind Olivia, Roselind Priscilla, Roselind Zara, Roselind Evangeline, Roselind Felecity, Roselind Claire

Roselind as a middle name: Natalie Roselind, Ella Roselind, Priscilla Roselind, Danielle Roselind, Matilda Roselind, Olivia Roselind. Tallulah Roselind

Possible siblings for Roselind: Verity, Johannah, Felecity, Ivy, Vivienne, Zara, Ferdinand, Oliver, Lionel, Dashiell, Xavier, Charleton

Ferdinand
Origin: German
Meaning: bold voyager

While it surprises me that Roselind is not in the top 1000, it does not surprise me that Ferdinand is not in the top 1000. Ferdinand strikes me as a bold and somewhat quirky classical choice. I really like it, though. I think it's totally usable. I especially like the meaning of 'bold voyager'. Ferdinand might seem like it lacks usable nickname (a necessity when dealing with a longer name), but Nando is really cool. I would love to meet a little Ferdinand!

Possible middle names for Ferdinand: Ferdinand Oliver, Ferdinand William, Ferdinand Calix, Ferdinand Victor, Ferdinand Caleb

Ferdiand as a middle name: Gabriel Ferdinand, Quinn Ferdinand, Alexander Ferdinand, Lionel Ferdinand, Marcus Ferdinand, Zachary Ferdinand

Possible siblings for Ferdinand: Felix, Calix, Victor, Gabriel, Wallace, Issachar, Roselind, Lillian, Matilda, Verity, Evangeline

So those are Beloved Blog's names of the week! I hope you enjoyed hearing about them! I selected these names from two of my corresponding articles about uncommon vintage names for boys and girls. If you're looking for classics not in the top 1000, be sure and check out these articles! The boys article was even featured (in a round-about way) on Appellation Mountain (huge deal for me). Thanks for reading and God bless!

  1. I'd have to say that I sort of cringe when I read the name Roselind! There was a mean girl bully named Roselyn who terrified me when I was little! So, anything that remotely resembles that name brings back awful memories. Isn't it something how having an unpleasant experience can turn us against the name of the person who was involved in the incident? I do like your nickname, though...Lindi is pretty and very feminine. I could tolerate hearing that one! LOL!! Thank you for stopping by my blog and for your faithful prayers for the needs represented there. :)

  2. It's so true that we avoid names based on experiences with unpleasant people, even if the names themselves are nice. I definitely have a few that I won't use for that reason!
