Name Crush Monday: Amethyst

Hello everyone! Happy February! In honor of the first day of my birth month, here's my name crush!

As a name, Amethyst is very rare and a pretty adventurous choice. Amethyst has a very different sound than many modern names. It does have the built in nickname Amy/Amie that I think makes it usable. You could even go for Ama or even Misty if that's more your style.

The stone amethyst is a violet form of quartz that's traditionally the birthstone of February. Amethyst comes from Greek roots meaning "not intoxicated". In he past it was believed that carrying an amethyst stone would keep a person from getting drunk. Western Christian bishops sometimes wear an episcopal ring set with amethyst as an allusion to the disciples not being drunk like people thought during their sermon on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:15). Amethyst was also worn by medieval soldier in battle because of a belief that it had the power to heal and to keep someone cool-headed. I don't know how true it is but amethyst is also said to be the stone of Saint Valentine because he always wore it.

Wow! Amethyst is an interesting stone and an intriguing name! If Amethyst is a little too adventurous for your taste, Violet, the color of the amethyst stone would also make a lovely name for a February baby! Happy February everybody! I hope it's amazing! God bless and thanks for reading!
